Clicks collection also includes one of the most successful Competition Cobrasthis 1964 Shelby 289 Cobra, CSX 2473. It was sold new to a Shelby employee but was later passed on to SCCA racer Don Roberts, who achieved 14 first-place finishes in the car in the span of two years. That should go for serious cash. Love the 289 Cobra. Much better balanced than the 427, and plenty fast enough.

Yes, the first two years the GT40 had the 427, then they went to the 289.

That Gulf color scheme is my absolute favorite. It looked good on the GT40 too.

Slower than a plain jane 4.6 Mustang GT.

Yes and the 289 has a smaller carbon footprint which is really the only important thing in today’s world/s

which could sell for upwards of $4.25 million.
It should be on Ebay. I'll put in a feeler automatic bid a couple of times then wait till the last 10 seconds and drop a final bid.

Don’t want to be a butthead but you got it bass akwards. The early ones came out with the 289 but they went to the side oiler NASCAR 427 and it is the gt40 that won the first of many Le Mans, as well as others, races for Ford. The FIA, at the behest of Ferrari, much later reduced the max to 5 liters.

That 289 was a great motor. We had a 65 Fairlane (only year of that body style) with a 4 bbl. That car flew.
A friend had a Mustang with the 289 and the 250 lb. top loader 3-speed. Thing was scary to drive.
