I am still in shock and don't know if I am doing this right. I need prayers for my almost 13 year old niece/Goddaughter. Lyssie went to the beach today and while swimming, she cut herself on something in the water. The cut was down to the bone in her leg. I am getting this information 2nd hand from my sister. It is her granddaughter and my Goddaughter. She was taken to the hospital where doctors tried to treat the wound. They somehow determined that (A) they could not completely clean it. (B) They saw a lump which could either be a tumor or bone cancer. They did not take her mother out of the room to say this. They told the mother right in front of my Goddaughter. They said she needed an orthopedic surgeon and they didn't have one. Or one on call. (Indian River Hospital (Vero Beach, FL) They closed up the wound with a "soft bandage" which is supposed to make it easier to go back in and get to. I don't understand why they could not completely irrigate it to clean it up. She can end up with an infection as she still had sand and stuff in there. How does a hospital not have an ortho dr on call. They told her mother to bring her back on Monday to see the orthopedist.
The only one able to do that would be my sister. I have tried to reach her but she is probably resting. Our last conversation she was out of it. My DIL is with her. We do have one other option which is the child’s father. He was there when the situation occurred. If needed, my sister can call him and have him do what is needed. The mother was in an abusive relationship with him. He gets visitation every other weekend. He might have lost his rights. Not sure. I will mention everything mentioned on this board to my sister and send her a link of necessary.
“Something in this story is wrong”
That is the problem. We cannot find out a true full story from the mother. I am hoping my sister can talk to Alyssa and find out more, but that won’t be until tomorrow.
Praying! Where is the closest children’s hospital? I would take her there immediately.
Praying now.
I completely agree! Only her mother does not feel it is needed. I have a feeling this is going to be a major battle on Mothers Day of all days.
Thank you for questions answered. I will advise my sister. God Bless You ALL and Thank you for the prayers. Keep them coming.
The idea is that if there is an infection, the pus will not go inward to spread, but can be cleaned with the new dressing. Often dirt etc that couldn’t be removed comes out too. After a few days when it is clean, you sew it up.
I am more worried that something might be on the bone.
I will keep you in my prayers.
Adding prayers
My prayers for Lil’Bit.
be a little patient and a lot confident...if they spotted a possible tumor or bone cancer, it is not an immediate traumatic emergence...they did the right thing, they cleaned the wound (believe me, thy cleaned it thoroughly, and stabilized everything until expert help could arrive....she will be fine and your hospital staff acted with proper care and consideration....rushing her off to another facility would have gained nothing and possibly endangered her.
Prayers up for your sweet Alyssa...her docs and her caregivers....and for you and your dear sis. In Jesus’ Holy name.
Prayers for healing of the girl and family.
As someone said, the cut helped to find the tumor earlier.
Thank Jehovah God for the Blessings He sends before we ask.
May all be Blessed by Jehovah God.
Take her to another doctor immediately; preferably a huge hospital which would be staffed with all the appropriate people - and take her to the ER where even more specially trained staff are located just for these types of incidents.
Do not let incompetent people treat this as nothing.
Sit your sister down and make her listen; this could end up very badly if you don’t take the risk of doing something.
I bet they did clean the wound to the extent they could, and I bet she is now on serious antibiotics.
Everything above is a guess.
If you are going to worry about something, I'd worry more about the biopsy results than the wound.
Prayers up.
I should have added to post #74 that it was entirely appropriate for them not to close a dirty wound. Let it drain.
Take solace in prayer, for peace and calm. Truly, if this awful event were life threatening, or posed even a health risk, these doctors would never have risked liability and sent this little girl home.
If they dared not scrape perfectly the wound clean, to avoid disturbing a possibility of some kind of tumor, then be assured they sterilized the debris left behind in the wound.
No more panic. Monday comes and more specialized care can proceed nicely, with the continuing wound treatment and biopsy.
Prayers for a fine results and speedy healing are yours, for you and your dear family. Love, Rita
I am handing it over to God to take care of and watch over. They are my family and I love them. I will pray for Alyssa. Thank you to everyone that has expressed a prayer. Please keep her in your prayers. She is all that matters.
I will be praying. With vibrio bacteria being such a problem in the lagoon I hope your grandniece is getting the antibiotics she needs. IRMH has a very good reputation and Vero does have a lot of great doctors. However there are alternatives if the family wants her seen someplace else. University of Miami Miller School of Medicine is about 3 hours south.
O Jesus Christ our Healer and Savior and Lord, be with Thy servant and protect her from all ill, and heal her, convert her to Thy heart, and enlighten her doctors so that they can provide adequate care.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, with the saints in heaven we pray, amen.
