Windows 10 - I’m not having it on my PC. They started pushing some preparatory Win10 “security” updates to my Win7 box that cause Corel Video Studio to not load. That was on Feb 19. I had to remove those updates and it did it again a couple of weeks ago. So I no longer get ANY Microsoft OS updates, just the MS Security Essentials updates.
I currently have a dual boot configuration, Win7 and Linux Mint 17.3 with Linux getting the default boot-up.

Same thing happened to me with Windows 10. I was thinking of the same solution. Ubuntu used to send out their system on a CD but can’t seem to find that option on their website recently. Any ideas?

Thanks. Exactly what I was looking for and instantaneous. Very much obliged.

LOL — I can imagine that.
I’m rather of the opinion that Linux is the wrong way to go, though. (I don’t like the underlying design philosophy, and think we need to do things more intentionally and in less of an ad-hoc manner.)

I’m also hoping that the VMS port to x86 will present a valid counter-case for the people in my industry (Computer Science) that things don’t have to be unix-like to be useful. (A sad artifact of university curricula, I think; certainly the case with C/C-like languages and non-C languages.)

I also stopped the updates months ago. No problems at all.

It isn't debatable. It's fact.

F*** dogma.

I hesitate to agree with that; there's a lot of buggy things that are foundational, or rather foundational things that are buggy. DNS is an example, the Linux DNS BIND has had a lot of vulnerabilities found, compared and contrasted with Ironsides DNS, the latter is formally proven not to have remote-execution vulnerabilities, or single-packet DoS vulnerabilities, or data-flow errors... all whil actually being faster than BIND. — Even more impressive is the Verve OS, which is safe to the last instruction.

There are a lot of *nix systems (and Windows systems) with unpatched vulnerabilities. I've seen Linux fans be quick to defend the kernel security, arguing that third party applications and libraries aren't really part of the OS, and those vulnerabilities shouldn't be attributed to the OS.

Many of those applications and libraries are providing functionality that Windows provides natively via built-in applications and the dotnet assemblies. Vulnerabilities found in those assemblies and applications will be attributed to the Windows OS.

Beautiful. And they actually blame ASUS in the KB.

Apple iTune users are finding their music files are being deleted by Apple.
What arrogance by these companies.

If I update to windows 10 then later revert back to windows 7 can I still upgrade after July 2016 to windows 10 for free?

NEVER upgrade something “hoping” that it will fix something else. That is silly. Usually only makes the original problem worse.

I’m an IT consultant and I’ve see numerous successful Windows 10 upgrades. I ones that aren’t successful can be a disaster...with no way back. Sure Windows 10 un-installs but the ongoing issues are un-solvable.

Stop nagging at us Microsoft...it’s unbecoming.

Happened to me a few days ago. Now I can’t use word, because my email address won’t work to activate it and I can’t find the office disc with the product code number. Called the store where I bought the computer; they gave me a support number for Microsoft. Some guy in Bangladesh or a similar location said “sorry, can’t help”.

I immediately updated all of our computers (over a dozen) to Windows 10 without any hesitancy, difficulties, OR regrets.

I take it they didn't "steal" your Microsoft Office like they did mine?

I just click the X, the pop-up disappears, and I never think about it until it shows up again.

I was doing the same; it forcibly updated me anyway.

I use Office 365. The moveover was seemless, zero impact on my business and family. (I presume if you have legal license to Microsoft Office, you can reinstall it. I have standalone licensed copy of Microsoft Project and no problems.)
