Yet another example of how the government takes a right that was yours and sells it back to you in the form of a permit, license, training, whatever.

They’ve done for traveling (passports/’drivers license’...I don’t DRIVE *anyone* though. You might), arms (’gun control’), car registration, property (taxes)...Let’s not forget about the guilds of lawyers, doctors, etc. etc. etc.

All hail the the benevolence of the almighty State!

My youngest daughter graduated college in 2009. There were no jobs available -- anywhere. Poor kid sent out hundreds of resumes. Finally, she decided to go to Japan to teach English. One requirement was a college degree. They didn't seem interested in what your degree was in; just that you had a college degree. So, she went to Japan right after the earthquake/tsunami.

She taught in Japan for 4 years. She wanted to go to Taiwan to teach; but, she got very sick, ended up in the hospital, and overstayed her visa. That got her in trouble with the Japanese authorities, even though she could prove that she had been sick and hospitalized. Anyway, they would not allow her to go to any destination but her home country.

So, while she was here, I asked if she could try to teach English to non-English speakers, since she now had 4 years of experience doing that. Well, no, she couldn't. In the state of Washington, you must have a teaching degree before they will allow you to teach ESL. Her experience meant nothing. Getting another degree was all they were wanting from her, 'cause sitting in a classroom for another 2 years is certainly more relevant than actual teaching experience in a foreign country.

She is now in Taiwan, teaching English.

My mother was a liberal while my dad was a conservative as he was co-owner of a business. My mom thought gov’t should pay for everything until she went to work when in her 40’s and saw people getting paid the same or more for doing less then she did and reality started sinking in. When my parents retired they started 3 business’s.

The 2nd one was as co-owners of a beauty parlor. They hired people who would work hard to make a lot of money while others would just work long enough for pin money and no more. The owners of course wanted the hard workers as they would make more. My mom told me once that the gov’t was always in the way with all the regulations. She became a conservative soon after starting the business.

Starting and maintaining a business is hard enough without some know nothing from the gov’t with their hand out asking for more paperwork and more money.
