Natural hair braiders like Nutall had excelled in their craft for years, learning braiding from their mothers and grandmothers. But now, the state was telling them they had to log more than 1,500 hours of education through an eight-week course with costs topping $12,000,

It’s about the spread of diseases.

Just think of all those illegal aliens doing these services at half price but knowing nothing about cleaning their working tools.

My youngest daughter graduated college in 2009. There were no jobs available -- anywhere. Poor kid sent out hundreds of resumes. Finally, she decided to go to Japan to teach English. One requirement was a college degree. They didn't seem interested in what your degree was in; just that you had a college degree. So, she went to Japan right after the earthquake/tsunami.

She taught in Japan for 4 years. She wanted to go to Taiwan to teach; but, she got very sick, ended up in the hospital, and overstayed her visa. That got her in trouble with the Japanese authorities, even though she could prove that she had been sick and hospitalized. Anyway, they would not allow her to go to any destination but her home country.

So, while she was here, I asked if she could try to teach English to non-English speakers, since she now had 4 years of experience doing that. Well, no, she couldn't. In the state of Washington, you must have a teaching degree before they will allow you to teach ESL. Her experience meant nothing. Getting another degree was all they were wanting from her, 'cause sitting in a classroom for another 2 years is certainly more relevant than actual teaching experience in a foreign country.

She is now in Taiwan, teaching English.

It’s the private sector colluding w/government.

Unions are privately run.

Another example - want to increase the market for your floundering LED light bulbs? Just get your congressman to make the incandescent ones illegal!

In tech school, I charged 50 cents or a can of beer to cut hair. Amazing the return on investment for electric clippers. The barbers on base never said a word. Every one of my clients was in 35-10. (Is that what they call it 36 years later?)

“knowing nothing about cleaning their working tools.”

I used to take an elderly woman on her errands and her nail salon that she raved about was so, undusted, unswept, had spill stains on chairs for people waiting near front desk, the front desk person was not only eating for all to see, but also picking her nose! I was so glad I don’t get my nails done, can’t imagine the uncleanliness at work stations. Have to keep them very short for my work, so I do my own.

Oh and of course the workers all talked in foreign language to each other, while “helping” their customers.

A beautiful country and very nice people. I spent some time there.

A friend left a travel bag with a high end camera and gear in the cab on his trip to the airport.
He said, 'the cab driver won the lotto'. His stuff would equal a year's salary, for a cabbie.

About two months later a package arrived, everything!
He sent a generous reward.

“Cleanliness is next to godliness”

I always thought the phrase “Cleanliness is next to godliness” came into being because only Christians have the work ethic to do the cleaning without goofing off.

‘They believe every job is consequential by regarding it as the arena for glorifying and obeying God and for expressing love (through service) to a neighbor’

My mother was a liberal while my dad was a conservative as he was co-owner of a business. My mom thought gov’t should pay for everything until she went to work when in her 40’s and saw people getting paid the same or more for doing less then she did and reality started sinking in. When my parents retired they started 3 business’s.

The 2nd one was as co-owners of a beauty parlor. They hired people who would work hard to make a lot of money while others would just work long enough for pin money and no more. The owners of course wanted the hard workers as they would make more. My mom told me once that the gov’t was always in the way with all the regulations. She became a conservative soon after starting the business.

Starting and maintaining a business is hard enough without some know nothing from the gov’t with their hand out asking for more paperwork and more money.
