Word For The Day, Friday May 6, 2016
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
autodidact[aw-toh-dahy-dakt, -dahy-dakt]
-n
a person who has learned a subject without the benefit of a teacher or formal education; a self-taught person.
[1525-35; < Greek autodídaktos self-taught; see auto-1, didactic]
Happy Friday!
Derby Day tomorrow. Mother’s Day Sunday.
Trump’s trying to soften his snide act
As he claims he’s a smart autodidact
Taught himself to be prez
But to beat the old lez
He must shore up his Jekyll and Hyde act
Yep, one more chance to pay for parking downtown. LOL
Not just pay for parking. Pay for Special Event parking, which is 3 times the ridiculous rate. Oh, how I hate them.
Another franchise record! And we watched all of it. So happy I am off today.
This is the first really long OT game this year. I did not watch it. I’m complaining about the 8 o’clock starts keeping me up past 11. LOL
Funny ... Every time a truck, a pickup, or an SUV hits someone, the liberals immediately report “De autodiddat”
But when a Prius or Chevy reVolt eco-car burns up because of a bad battery, there’s ne’er a reporter in site!
Look at you remembering all on your own ! I was remiss in not reminding you!
7:15 pm Saturday thankfully!!
Unless the horse race runs long. ;-)
Sunny and 78 here-nights are still in the 50’s, which is nice-
Any sensible person today
Who is considering college
Will be looking for a job
Without any real knowledge
They won’t be hired to “feel”
But today almost every class
Turns them into a snowflake
And a spineless, whining ass-
It’s better to be an autodidact
Than a graduate who is annoyed
If anyone looks at them wrong-
As a real worker gets their job...
Damnit-deleted my changed line-”A real worker gets employed”
That’s funny!
Thank you!
How are your chickens and other pets doing?
We’re getting 2-3 eggs per day from the new pullets. The older gals have decided they are retired and that’s fine too. They worked hard for us for almost 3 years. Dixie Chicken still seems a bit frail but she is eating and drinking and bopping around the yard, although not as quickly as she used to and Penelope is fat and sassy. New girls Charlotte, Daisy, and Zelda are doing well and will come running for raisins or dried mealworms when I call them.
The dogs are well and the ungrateful shelter cat is fine. I saw a garden snake this week, laying on the sidewalk, soaking up the sun.
