Back in in 1976 as a cop, I was dispatched to direct traffic at a house fire. Long story short, the foundation was saved, that’s all. The old lady (probably my age now) lost everything but most especially $40,000 in cash from her dead husband’s business, stored in an ammo box in the basement. The firemen found it and it was cooked ash. I watched the woman bawl and carry on. I took three days off, went from Ohio to DC with the box of ashes, gave it to the Revenuers who did whatever they do (weigh the ashes, sample the paper, I don’t know) and they returned $34,000 to her. She baked me a cake, paid for my gas and published an editorial about me.

That was a great thing that you did, over and above the call of duty. Very compassionate for another human being who was suffering. Others could have tried to help her, but didn’t. That was HUGE!

What a wonderful story! God bless you!
