What caused the last ice age to end about 12,000 years ago?

The Earth warmed up. And there was not a single SUV, oil well, factory, or airplane anywhere on the planet at that time.

I live in Maine, and grey boulders of various sizes are everywhere; left behind all over the state when the glaciers receded.

Deep in the woods on a large parcel of land my family owns, there are boulders larger than a 2-story home. In some cases, there are trees and plants growing on these massive boulders.
