If they made Star Trek today, Sulu would be a homosexual character. I haven’t kept up with Star Trek; don’t know if they have already boldly gone where no man has gone before to explore homosexual themes in space.

The new (JJ Abrams) Star Trek movies have a gay guy playing Spock, but he’s actually a good actor and in love with Uhura in the changed time line.
It is almost a guarantee that the new Star Trek series (original continuity, the first season set between The Undiscovered Country and Star Trek TNG, only available on CBS streaming service) will have an openly gay male character. The SJWs in Trek fandom demand it, and the showrunner is a poofter.
