I worked for a marine scientist when I was in college. He spent several weeks each year in a ship at sea out of sight of land near the Bahamas. He said that almost every time he was out somebody would come by in a skiff or tiny boat and ask which way was Florida. Most didn’t even have a compass. I thought he was overstating or pulling my leg but the grad students with him verified the story.
I could do that on land. In the middle of the ocean...not so much.
Too many people rely on battery powered gadgets, thinking they will still work when the my need them in an emergency.
