Well, well, well .....
I think the report I read (now lost in the rapidly moving history of my computer) was a combined income of Ted and Heidi
I am a born again Christian, and I tithe and I see nothing wrong with obeying cautionary warnings (you are cursed with a curse .. Malachi) and other etcetera's regarding the law of tithing
As you sow, so shall you reap .. etc.
What is being made a fuss about is that his TAX REPORTED giving does not meet some other persons expectation.
I do not report all of my charitable giving on my taxes. A good part of it is that not all of my charitable giving is easily reportable. Another reason is that I may have given money to someone in need and NOT wanted to report it because of how it would screw up their taxes.
Another reason a person may not report it on their personal income tax is that some of the giving may have been done through other means such as funds or businesses. For example, a wealthy person (Trump) often minimizes their income for tax reasons. They structure their income to remain in their businesses or in non profit funds. Those then in turn make charitable donations.
My view, someone is making a mountain out of a mole hill.
What is Trump’s tithe? Trump won’t release his tax returns???
How much money have you given to the church in the last year?
Not my pastor, nor do you know the context in which the comment was made.
However, one thing we do know, Cruz has held himself out as ‘the Body of the Spirit’ and as ‘The Face of God’.
Now there’s context with which to judge what you have said is the truth.
Sounds like something I would hear from Jimmy and Tammy Faye Bakker. And for your love offering of $20 or more, he'll send you a prayer towel........
Take it easy :) I don’t hate rich people. I just added her compensation to the conversation.
850 SS X 12 = 10,200 ... tithe and offerings 1,257
All Cruz has to do is make a statement that he gives to these charities but doesn’t want the tax write offs.
Trump is passing himself off as a Christian. I bet you aren’t at all bothered by that.
What does Matthew Ch6 vs #1 mean to you?
Good for you. You are a holy man.
Matthew 6
1 Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.
2 Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:
4 That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.
Yea, I agree this thread is gutter low and shows the extreme people will go to smear Ted Cruz. If your going to appoint yourself as a judge of the law, have at it, you just raised yourself to be judged by a perfect standard that you will never be able to attain. He that lives by the law and breaks just one is guilty of all.
I know many, many people like me that do not report or claim on taxes what we give to charities. When the plate comes by on Sunday in church we just put a 20 in and forget about it. We used to give several hundred a year to the Boy Scouts and never reported it, same with MD as well as childrens hospitals and veterans.
So I guess next we will hear he doesn’t put the toilet seat down and drinks milk out of the carton.
It's ALL God's money, He just asks you to return 10% of it back to Him. What your pastor and church does with it is on them. The principle on you is just to give it back. When you think it's your money and you begrudgingly give it back to the rightful owner, eventually He will take what He believes you owe. Just like the Jews spent 490 years in slavery because they didn't observe the Sabbath years on the land, there was a debt owed. Your giving is your business between you and God. If your church is pounding you for money, they are missing the whole point. God can give you money as well as give the church money if you don't give, but there are always consequences for not obeying God.
We have many in our church that choose not to take a tax deduction for various reasons. The truth is, if you give for a tax deduction, you give for the wrong reasons. Nobody knows what Cruz gives and to whom, but Cruz and God. Why should we even care? Works don't get you to heaven. We are created to do good works, but God should get the glory, not us. Trump might give millions to worthy causes, but if his relationship with God doesn't even involves asking blessing of his food, how close can he be to His Creator. When he meets God, he may brag about the giving he has done and God asks him, did it glorify me or you? When did you give me credit for the money I gave you?
One of the most telling phrases Trump has made was, "I haven't found the need to ask forgiveness for anything". That tells much more than a number on a 1040 form.
It seems that lately the idea of punishing success and going after the rich seems to be a growing theme on this forum.
Heidi Cruz is a very successful business woman. Ted Cruz is a very accomplished attorney and litigator who could literally make a couple of million dollars a year at a prestigious law firm. Instead he is making about the same pay as I am and has been diligently challenging the GOP leadership since before he was a senator. Maybe he is a fake conservative like a lot of people on this forum think. Maybe not. All I know is that he stood in the trenches for me when Obamacare was on the line and nobody else did. Whether or not he is presidential material is up for debate, but I think he deserves a little more respect than he has been getting on this forum lately.
But that is just my opinion and I am sure I will be ridiculed and called a liar and every other name in the book because I refuse to bow down before the Altar of the Trump Tower and I refuse to join in the chorus of those calling Cruz every nasty name in the book.
Neither Cruz nor Trump are angels. They are both men with feet of clay. We need to hold both of their feet to the fire on the issues that are important (or used to be important) to God Fearing Conservative Christians.
“I only brought up my own situation to make the point about deductions, not out of self promotion”
I know. I was trying to get across to others that many tithe payers choose to keep it solely between themselves and G_d unless they want the tax break. :)
Other than that, the topic bothers me because it appears some people seem to think they have a right to know whether you, or I, or anyone pays a tithe or not. It’s a matter of obedience between a person and G_d.
But, if they want to point fingers and gossip, nothing I can say will stop them, that’s for sure.
“Christians, especially born again Christians”
Serious question, how would someone be a Christian if they are not born again?
[[This is the silliest post ever.]]
i dunno- the “Ted Cruz caused Missouri governor candidate Tom Schweich to commit suicide” thread is pretty asinine too
