I'm not sure if you were being serious or not, but to me it's actually categorically the same - borne of a lack of appreciation of the sanctity of life. I read an article the other day about how much money middle aged people were spending to buy the right clothes, have the right cosmetic surgery, and get into ‘shape’ so that they could be ‘cool’ at the Coachella rock festival. We've become so incredibly shallow, and the biggest manifestation of that in my view is that we've failed our children. When you don't teach them about love, and honesty, and empathy, and the value of life, what do you expect? When you let our popular culture inundate them with filth and don't teach them the value of innocence, what do you expect?

A very good short explanation for a variety of problems for which everyone seems to be seeking a separate answer. But I am afraid there is no solution...just not enough people of good will or apparently smart enough to understand the obvious.

I'm not sure if you were being serious or not, but to me it's actually categorically different - middle aged white people at the Coachella music festival are not responsible for the black-on-black gang murder of this teenager. And I'm absolutely sick of people cloaking themselves in morality by invoking collective racism under the guise of humanitarianism. You want to cry a river, then have the courage to say "I" instead of "we." Better yet, just take your white guilt racist collectivism CRAP back to DU.

Psalm 113:10: If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?

We have generations of people steeped in secular humanism. How can we expect kids to respect the sanctity of life when all they know is that we are animals ourselves. Human life has value because we are made in the image of God, by the Holy God himself. That truth has been destroyed and erased from every source of information they have. Knowing that survival of the fittest is the ruling force of our world (there is no God to whom they are accountable) then the only your life and the people you care about have value. Anyone else is of no worth. Mercy and compassion come from knowing all people have value in the eyes of God. A secular humanist world view has no basis for valuing life; it’s every man for himself.
