In the past, I attended several conventions. Jerry was on some of the panels. He didn’t like it when others would respond to him with one-liners. He said, “I talk in paragraphs.”
And after the success of the Walking Dead, a climax with a horde of hippie cannibals is actually filmable today.
I enjoyed Fallen Angels and Lucifer’s Hammer both.
I only recognize “Mote in God’s Eye” and “Lucifer’s Hammer” from his works. I hated the former but really enjoyed the latter.
Of their collaborations, I have read only, The Mote in God’s Eye, Oath of Fealty, Lucifer’s Hammer, The Legacy of Heorot, and Fallen Angels. I liked them all.
There are other collaborations as well.
Oops. I just checked the date of “Fallen Angels.” It says 1991. Oh, well. I was at that convention too (Chicon V).
Love the description of the award - the brass cannon story from The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress. I’ve stolen that one and used it myself.
“Mote” just had the blandest characters and NOTHING HAPPENS for the first half of the book. I couldn’t believe I summoned the will to finish the book. It did get a lot better when the little brown critters started wreaking havoc in the ship, though.
