What we need to be doing is to encourage women to have their children earlier, while their bodies are stronger and more resilient. Then they can have a great career once the kids are old enough to have some autonomy. Solves the low birth rate problem, the deep anxiety and disappointment of women who wait too long, and the problems that arise from putting careers on hold mid-stream. Plus employers won't have to worry as much about retention, which could make finding a job easier once the time is right.
Not to mention, the kids won't be treated as an obstacle or afterthought!
My wife stays home with our kids. We do with a little less than most folks but boy are they good children. All because mom is close IMO.
