The way it works is that if you send an email to a server and the address exists the mail goes to their mailbox and you get no further response.
If there is no matching email address the server sends a failure email back to you.
It’s the way they work. Most of the time you aren’t probing, you are sending emails to addresses and people you know exist. If the email is not going to reach them, you want to know that. Not informing you would be the failure in and of itself.
Not on a high security server you don’t, you turn that off.
In fact, you make it so no one but authorized senders can even reach the inbox.
