The lesson here is to record the police...

The first lesson is to be respectful to the police because the guy was out of compliance, as he admitted. Since he was going to pick up his trailer to leave for Cali, he was officially on duty the moment he left his driveway, therefore, he should have started his logbook and done a pre-trip. The cop could have still given him a ticket for this. Respect begets respect and that cop understood he could have lost his job had that dash cam video reached a courtroom.

However, this does reaffirm what we have been contemplating for a while now and we will be purchasing a dash cam for our rig this weekend.

Meh, the cop had no way of knowing the guy was "out of compliance" until he pulled him over, and he had no cause to pull him over. Typical bad cop harassing law abiding citizens simply because he can.

Yeah, it's simply common sense to show respect to cops, if you don't want them to cause even more trouble for you. However, when cops do stuff like this I not only have no respect for the individuals doing it, but it erodes what respect I have left for the whole profession.
