Traveling through southern VA on I-85. People get in the fast lane and do about 85mph but hit their brakes every mile as they approach the service breaks in the median just in case there’s a highway patrolman hiding behind the trees. Seems kinda silly and is probably hell on the gas mileage.

But one of the best traps I have seen along that stretch is when a patrol car is on the side of the highway (at night) with his lights flashing. Some idiots figure since he has somebody pulled over, they’ll just continue thru at their law-breaking pace. And then, SURPRISE! Doh, he didn’t have anybody pulled and was just sitting there with a radar gun. I believe they were also pulling this stunt/trap to nab drivers who don’t pull into the left lane while passing emergency vehicles on the shoulder.

Actually that tactic is for catching dui drivers because the non-drinking driver is going to slow down when they see flashing blue lights, while an intoxicated driver will continue to drive above the speed limit.
