In a decision by the U.S. Army Thursday, Capt. Simratpal Singh, a decorated Sikh-American officer and combat veteran, has received a long-term religious accommodation to serve with long hair, a beard, and turban in accordance with his Sikh faith.
In December, Singh a West Point graduate, Army Ranger, and Bronze Star recipient received a temporary accommodation to serve in the military with his articles of faith intact.
In March, a U.S. district judge issues a temporary restraining order against additional non-standard, discriminatory testing. According to The Sikh Coalition, which is representing Singh with The Becket Fund for Religious Liberty and the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery, Singh is the first Sikh American to receive religious accommodation while already actively serving in the U.S. Army.

This makes me sick to my stomach.
Sikhs are not our enemy. They hate Islam as much as we do. They served in the British army throughout history. They even served the US in World War 1...
Believe what you want. The guy put himself above others.
What’s next? He gets a pilot slot because it’s beneath him to serve with the unwashed Christian masses?
I agree with you. He earned the tab. He served with distinction in combat. That’s good enough for me.
+1
I will never get used to that.
Simple solution: If they get shot in the head then no benefits.
Not my Army, Not my Fathers Army, not my Grandfathers Army. I guess the old insult “your mother wears Army boots” is no longer a slur.
Thx for the truth
Sikhs have served in the British army for centuries and in the Indian army ever since independence.
Haven’t they already resolved turban related issues like gas mask seal and ballistic protection?
Sikhs hate Muslims and integrate well in America. I’d take 10,000 Sikhs in our armed forces over one Mohammedan.
Real question: since India has a modern air force, are Sikhs disqualified to be air crewmen because of their headgear?
That sounds about right!
In a sane world, it would be a demonstration of how and why the Army is no place for a woman.
He can wear his beard, because his religion matters.
But he has to bake wedding cakes, because his religion doesn’t matter.
What a country?
Personal safety and effectiveness.
Helmet—obvious
No beard—ensures solid seal when wearing gas mask
Hair: cleanliness in the field
Opens the door for muslimes and cross-dressing homosexuals.
An exemption for one is an exemption to all.
“Havent they already resolved turban related issues like gas mask seal and ballistic protection?”
Simple answer. . .no. And Brits don’t usually go to combat MOPP equipped. . .we do.
Yeah, I know. Going MOPP 4 for hours on end is a real gas.
In 1918 the Italians went into battle without masks against the Austrians at Caporetto. Died by the thousands.
