Sorry, but I regularly take my dog to Home Depot, one of the few places other than the pet store or dog park, I would never take him to a grocery, clothing, furniture type store. In this case I blame owners for taking dogs that aren't socialized, on the other hand you can only socialize a dog by taking out to interact with people. I started mine at five months at antique swapmeets, he was 55# then, now that he's 150# few people ask me to leave anywhere, but my dog is a very gentle giant, an assistance animal and therapy dog.

No reason to be sorry.
When the time comes, if it comes, I’ll protect myself.

I brought my Old Jack with me to the Home Depot one time.
It was 32 degrees when we left the house, it was 89 degrees when we got to the Home Depot in Red Bluff.
I drove around their parking lot looking for some shade to park in, couldn't find any.
Went into the store alone and asked an employee if there was a shady area anywhere because I didn't want to leave Old Jack parked in the sun (yes I do carry 10 gallons of water and his bowl at all times).
I was told no about the shade, so I got ready to turn around and go the 87 miles back home empty handed.
The employee told me I could bring Jack into the store if I wanted, about floored me.
Jack was a 17 year old NewFoundland/Lab mix so I knew he couldn't take the heat, he layed down by the checkout counters and enjoyed the Ac until we were ready to leave.
Home Depot got my permanent loyalty at that point for all my farm needs.
