The disease is still present there (just because the US media stop paying attention does not mean something has gone away, it just means the public has reached the limit of its attention span and the headlines don't sell like they did). While there have been brief (<90 day) periods of no new infections in the region, it just hasn't stopped completely.

At this point the disease may well be endemic, present somewhere in some obscure fluid in a former patient (semen, vitreous humor, etc) or in animal populations. All that need happen is for the right human to be in the wrong place at the right time.

At least the disease is somewhat better understood, medical personnel are aware of and looking for the disease, and the course of treatment has been refined to improve both survival rate and reduce transmission to health care people.
