Interesting point. It is incredible Trump is doing as well as he is with such ferocious and constant attacks from all sides. I’ve never seen anything like this. The lack of fairness has changed my opinion of some people I once respected.

Perhaps you were not reading FR during that time, there were LOTS of 'never Romney' people. Many voted for the Constitution Party. In fact, we heard all about how the Virgil Goode was going to have a real impact because of all the folks that were 'never Romney' were gonna vote for him. Ofcourse it turned out that Goode was a nonfactor, but I'm sure he got some votes from here.

I don’t see how that would have made much difference one way or the other.

Running against an incumbent president in 2012 also, but not now. You’d think anyone running against Hillary or Bernie would be a slam-dunk, but I have serious doubts the way things are going. No party unity whatsoever.
