I have found some series advice for you, but only if the gypsies have stolen your carrots.

Basically, make a raiding party, go at night after they’re drunk and take them by surprise. Capture a large male and force him to stay inside a house. Then they will return your carrots and move on.

Otherwise, dead crows, owls in the daytime or an owl hooting at dawn, seagulls flying over them - these are bad omens.
