Olga Kern. She couldn’t even afford a gown for the competition so a benefactor bought one for her. I’ve seen her play live in a small venue-very difficult music and she did not play ONE wrong note the entire concert. She’s gorgeous at the piano and so, so strong.

Thanks for the post. Also one of my very very faves. First heard it on vinyl at the in-laws place about 1971. The 10:09 mark is sublime. But my o my that gal has rather stocky fingers for a classical pianist.

Excellent choice.
That concerto which I believe is Rachmaninoff's C-minor is the only long hair music I spent money to get.
It was played by Alexander Brailowsky .
I would never complain about a pianist playing it from showing some emotion.
As a matter of fact I would like to see the pianist kick the stool out of the way and play the last few minutes standing up. -Tom
