The Kindle has changed the way that people read. I do so much more reading these days now that I get digital books. I've got Kindle apps on my phone too so that if I'm standing in line for something, I have my library of books available to read.

I still have a large library of "old-fashioned" books (made out of paper) in the house but what I do now is buy digital copies of those books too so that they become portable. Many of the classics, you can get on your Kindle for next to nothing. I think I got the entire works of Jack London for 99 cents! I like reading Jack London but he gets a little weird with his longer fiction. His short stories make for mostly pleasant reading but the longer works like "John Barleycorn" and "People of the Abyss" make for more challenging reading. But they yield good things.

Sometimes I get books that I read digitally that I like so much that I end up getting the old-fashioned "print" copy through Amazon so that I can put it on my bookshelves. My wife thinks that's rather nutty. Read a book digitally and they buy a book to put on a shelf that never gets read but just sits there and collects dust. But I'm stubborn like that. I'm always thinking that if I lose power for an extended amount of time and my Kindles no longer charge, it will be nice to have a stash of old-fashioned books to fall back upon.

So I think I will check out your father's book and add it to my online library. I think my device will hold thousands upon thousands of books. More than I'll ever read in my lifetime even if I did nothing but read. I think if we went back in a time machine to 1900 and brought people to 2016, they would be amazed at all the gadgets that we have today. I think the big gadget to be had in 1900 was a stylish pocket watch. The kind that you wind up every night and it just tells you the time. None of that other fancy stuff. The people in the picture below look bored. They had no Kindles to read.

My reading has shot up since Kindle, too. And even moreso with Kindle Unlimited. For about the cost of Netflix, I can download and read for free so many books it is overwhelming. You are only allowed ten Unlimited books on the device at a time, so if you have ten and want another, you ‘return’ one of the Unlimited books then download the new one.

Amazon is a terrific company.
