See if Rick Steve’s has any suggestions in his books. He’s a BIG Italy tour operator, TV travel host, writer and fan.

Example...I visited Venice (years ago). His book gave specific directions to the “public transportation workers” cafeteria near the main train station on the Grand Canal. The cafeteria was open to the public, but not advertised as such (or even visually noticeable from the sidewalk). Meals were great, bountiful and cheap. There was coffee bar and a regular bar.

His books often have many suggestions that save time, money, and offer good value.

You trying to make us jealous that you’re going to Italy? Pretty pathetic.

You can walk into any Trattoria at random and pretty much be assured of a great meal at a decent price. The less fancy, the more decent the price.

You can also have a beer with your Big Mac at any McDonald’s.
