Trump 'needs all the help he can get,' donors say

Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump often tells crowds at his campaign rallies that he doesn't need outside financial support to get to the White House, but some of his fans are starting to feel differently.

Donors to an independent political spending group formed to promote Trump's candidacy said in interviews on Sunday they were worried by reports describing the millions of dollars Trump's opponents are spending to attack him.

They said they admired the billionaire businessman's professed financial independence but thought a cash boost would help keep his fight for the Republican U.S. nomination fair. So 767 people sent in small sums - $25 here, $100 there - hoping it would help prepare him to face his many, moneyed foes.

"He needs all the help he can get," said Diane Abair, 83, a real estate agent in Redding, California, who sent $50 to the group, Great America PAC.

She said she didn't think her donation tarnished Trump's claim that he won't have to pander as president to any special interest groups because he's not backed by big donors.

"I'm not somebody that he can be beholden to," she said.

I suppose eventually the RNC will support Trump's campaign.

He got 4 or 5 million from his university. That should tied him over for a bit.

If he doesn’t need financial support then why are there two “Donate” buttons on his website?

When he refers to not needing financial support, he is referring to big corporate special interest donors. He accepts small donations from average supporters who wish to contribute and has mention it several times in his speeches. He uses this money towards incidental costs to the campaign (fuel, food, etc.).

Why not? Totally voluntary and plus it cuts out the 'middleman'... PACS and outside organizations. Very grass roots like.

i donated fifty dollars and i’m lower middle class and elderly.

all i expect from him is to do what he says he will do for our country and the people; and not to betray us. And I want him to be president to all the citizens unlike O who has been president to only a few: himself and his rich friends.

Go Mr Trump!

Just like Bernie Sanders. But Sanders doesn't keep saying that he's self funding.

You know I expect it from the left. But I can’t believe the hatred and vitriol towards Trump and even his children by some on this site. Why? Because he is a successful business man.

I hope so that people like myself who want to be a supporting part of the process are free to do so. Unlike a lobbyist all I want in return is my country restored.

You are so concerned about Trump University. Are you as concerned about Cruz and Goldman Sachs or the Bush dynasty or if Soros money is flowing into campaigns like Kasich.

You know full well the context of the article and you choose to make a sarcastic statement about something that has no bearing on the issue.

Didn’t Bernie accept big donations and fund raisers by some leftist elites?

You know what would be some nice “help” for Trump? The media not being lying pieces of s**t. And by that I mean just about everyone, including every site that supposedly keeps track of delegates.

Absolutely everywhere, there’s a game on to deny and mitigate even the PERCEPTION of Trump’s lead, and every delegate counts. The most recent example is Missouri. Everywhere lists the delegate split as 25/15 between Trump and Cruz. No one adds the 12 state-win delegates to the count.

Trump won districts 1, 2, 3, 6, and 8, and Ted Cruz got 4, 5, and 7, all worth 5 each. It makes no sense to not add the 12 votes to Trump’s total, making it 37/15. If the certification of the results changes things, so be it, and it wouldn’t be the first time it’s happened, in this election even. That’s why they call it a projection.

The only reason not to give Trump his proper estimate is perception. 25/15 makes the state look more competitive than 37/15, and the media is desperate to undermine Trump and give the illusion that Cruz has a shot to get the delegates he needs when, realistically, he doesn’t, because he’s not going to get 80%+ of the remaining delegates.

And that’s not even getting started on the whole “Trump is so violent” nonsense every time leftist BLM rioters show up to harass Republicans going to their candidate’s rallies. Even the Republican elites and the other presidential candidates join in that dogpile.

So, when we talk about “help”, the first “help” anyone could possibly give would be a level playing field.

But, despite all of this, I expect Trump will prevail, because he’s an actual leader who powers through adversity, instead of cowering and tucking tail like just about every other Republican over the last 30 years.

I don't know. He keeps bragging about how he's funded by millions of small donors, just like Obama did, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if there were some big money people in there as well. Not as many as Hillary, but some.
