Well, they gotta swear that they'll behave. Uncle bernie is all for this. Guess he's looking for the prison vote. Other than that, this will probably work out just fine.

Hard to imagine anything more pernicious than putting a million criminals back on the street.

Pure evil.

Federal prisoners are a tiny amount compared to state incarceration a which unlike federal prisoners are not majority drug offenses

States cannot be forced to just release state inmates unless he legalize the crimes

Unlikely

Sure, why not due it right before a Republican comes in office. Then the Left can blame the Republican administration for any rise in violent crimes. Hey, it worked well when they blamed Trump for the violence the Left brought to his rally, right?

Sounds like somebody else wants to win the “Gun Salesman of the Year” award after Obama is gone.

That would just give them an excuse to expand and further militarize their enforcement entities, “for the children”.

Disarm the populous and release prisoners en masse. What could go wrong.

Not only the left, Rand Paul was spouting this nonsense too.
That and his support for McTurtle was it for me.

When Kennedy was running in 1960 my mother, and everyone else in my little home town of 300 people, believed Kennedy was going to “make” everyone turn Catholic.

For every person in prison there are families who want that person released. And everyone of them will believe if they elect the right person their loved one will be released the next day. Just like the woman who thought Obama would pay her mortgage.

This “plan” will get the democrats a lot of votes.

And when the offenders offend again, the left will use that as an excuse to take guns from non-violent citizens.

By federal prisoners I am sure the focus will be on the illegal alien and black inmates. There is NO WAY they are going to fight for white inmates and blue collar criminals to be freed.

If republicans win in November expect a large scale release to blame a rising crime rate on republicans. If Hillary is elected, the rising crime rate will be blamed on republicans.

“...the “end mass incarceration” movement wants to reduce the U.S. prison population by 50 percent within the next 10 to 15 years.”

OK. A million rounds of 5.56mm will only cost about $250,000.00, and 100 AR-15s only about $50,000.00. Seems like a cheap way to reduce the prison population - but just the violent offenders - the rest stay.

Alison Holcomb (National director of the ACLU Campaign to End Mass Incarceration) doesn't want thieves and robbers jailed even briefly. If someone steals property, "why is the response to put that person in a cage?" she said. Like Black Lives Matter supporter and Baltimore riot organizer DeRay Mckesson, Holcomb doesn't care about property rights.

Like most progs, Holcomb doesn't care about other people's property rights. But you can be sure she cares about her own.

There’s absolutely no doubt we have to reduce this prison population footprint we have in this country. I’m not sure we should release current prisoners who have been hardened by the system, but we need to stop incarcerating new prisoners on petty crimes and drug abuse. Once these people are in the system, they become hardened and commit real crimes once they’re out. A huge majority of inmates now are there for drug offenses. It’s time to start treating this as a health issue, not an incarceration one. With our prison system setup as it is, there’s a real incentive to keep the population high, and it also continues to lead to even more militarization of our police forces. It’s not what we are about here.

At least it shouldn’t be...
