Best live album ever?

For me and in this order;

The Kinks "One for the road"

Deep Purple "Made in Japan"

I'm looking for more.

Glad you like it - I’m watching some, too. Check out “T for Texas”. Every time I listen, I’m blown away by how tight they sounded live. Knebworth was a glimpse of a young rock band at the peak of its abilities.

AMERICAN BEAUTY.....so shoot me

And Workingman's Dead. But since the subject of the thread is LIVE albums, I'll throw in Europe '72.

The song Machine Gun on that Band of Gypsys is Hendrix at his very best. Just when you think the channeling should ease back it gets more insane. A lot of Hendrix live material is crappy because he would get too damn high. That Album is my favorite for live Hendrix.

Will do.

In the meantime I’m stepping out for some beers.

Cause,

When I drink alone, I prefer to be by myself.

Pete Townshend’s “Deep End Live” is great too, with David Gilmour on guitar.

Straight from memory of many many herb fueled cross country treks from Dixie to the western high country as a boy

Brown eyed women and red grenadine the bottle was dusty but the liquor was clean sound of the thunder with the rain pouring down ...

Or another perfect song

I know you rider gonna miss me when I’m gone gonna miss your baby come rolling in your arms

Or

Jack Straw from Wichita cut his buddy down anddug for him a shallow grave and laid his body down half a mile from Tucson, by the morning light oneman gone and another to go

Good memory. Thankfully herb doesn’t affect the long-term variety. Europe ‘72 goes perfectly with road trips, doesn’t it? Great tune after tune.

I drove down to see the Dead in San Diego in ‘82 and lines are the freeway going home after the show were messing with me big time. ....and listening to Electric Ladyland in the car wasn’t helping.

A lot of votes for the Who, “Live at Leeds”

I must admit that as a purely “pedestrian” “Who” fan I’ve never given this live show the attention that it deserves.

Listening now.

I would also recommend the “Live at the Isle of Wight” DVD. A lot of great songs that never made it to their studio albums, like “Water” and “I Don’t Even Know Myself”.

The “Who” Live at the Leeds isn’t really very good.

I’ll take the Doors or even Leonard Cohen at the “Isle of Wight Festival” 1970 over the Who at Leeds.

“Sinatra at the Sands with Count Basie”........

Great album. I bought it after Phil Collins put it in his top ten
