That’s all true, except “principled.” Shapiro has been repeating Cruz’s lies.
Example: When Trump said that his healthcare plan would cover the absolutely destitute, and not let people “die in the streets,” Cruz immediately began saying that “Donald Trump is for socialized, single-payer healthcare for all Americans.”
Shapiro has been repeating this lie ever since Cruz came out with it.
Trump said the government’s going to pay for the “25% of people who can’t afford health care”.
If that isn’t socialized health care you don’t know what the word means. You already accept the premise that the federal government should have a role in our health care - it shouldn’t. The constitution is clear on what is under federal authority and the rest is left to the states. The federal government has no business in our health care.
And you can deny it, but not very long ago Trump was advocating the “Canadian model” and how we need to go in that direction. Trump also said recently that his plan will require coverage of preexisting conditions. And he also praised the “mandate” and then walked that back with a “clarification” after getting blow back... And the simple truth is, you can’t require coverage of preexisting conditions if you don’t force people to buy health insurance. Period. It is a logical fallacy to claim otherwise. No one would by insurance if you can buy it after you need it to cover something.
Trump is just offering pie in the sky and you’re buying it.
What Cruz said about it wasn’t a lie.
