I once flew into the old SAC base at Plattsburgh, NY. The landing strip was two miles long! We used less than 5,000’ of it.
It took a long time to get to the little terminal. It was two miles away!
Plattsburgh AFB was a B-47 base. So was Pease AFB, NH, where I was stationed for eight years. It also had a two-mile-long runway and we often used almost all of it for takeoff.
