A jury awarded $55 million to Fox Sports reporter Erin Andrews in her lawsuit against a Nashville Marriott hotel on Monday.
Andrews sued the hotel alleging it acted negligently when allowing a man who was stalking her to book the room next to hers and surreptitiously film nude videos of her in 2008 while she worked for ESPN. The stalker, Michael David Barrett, posted the videos online and pleaded guilty to stalking charges, for which he was sentenced to 30 months in prison.

I can't speak for her but in my younger years I had a few girl friends that preferred to be au natural in the house or apartment.
Hotels seem to get it.
There are very bad people out there.
Thank you!
Quick question, did he steal it or did they give it to him?
They gave it to him. He probably paid them off. This fact came out in the trial.
I agree, thanks for the update.
I didn't follow this case so I am lacking a lot of the details.
I've never heard of Hotels giving out room numbers, very stupid thing to do.
I think 55 million is just a tad out of line though.
If I were judge and jury my verdict would be $500,000 to this over the hill whatever.... and get out of here before I charge you court fees
$28 million from the creep that stalked her, got a video of her nude getting out of shower, and posted it on the Internet. He can’t pay that, but he should spend the rest of his life paying her every penny that can be extracted.
$27 million from the hotel chain. Probably too much, but seriously, in this day and age, what hotel chain gives out the room number of a celebrity and allows a stranger to request a room next to her? Through no fault of her own, her career trajectory has been permanently changed. To top it off, after the suit was filed, a hotel executive was apparently overhead at a public restaurant saying something to the effect of “if we’re going to get sued I’m going to get my money’s worth” and showing the videos on his cell phone.
Does she get a royalty payment for every time someone watches the video?
If she wasn’t a well known broadcaster, no way would she have been awarded such a high amount. Yes, of course it was wrong to spy on her.
I stayed at a Washington area hotel once where the front desk put through someone who asked for room 503. On hearing a woman’s voice at 3 am, he tried a sultry “guess who?” and got hung up on. At 5 am someone from the hotel put the bill under the door and scared me badly.
And the TV stand was secured by a slit in the carpet. Dead toddler, anyone?
Mid-price national hotel chain. Ugh.
I guess she won’t be hosting Dancing With The Stars anymore!
I think it’s too much, but with all the other ridiculous awards in the past 20+ years - good for her!
I think there is a place for punitive damages but I still believe that juries are irresponsible with them and wish I knew a good way to make them judge more wisely.
Santa Claus came early this year.
He listened from the room next door for her to take a shower. When the shower came on, he started the video.
They need to put a money dispenser like that on the back of ambulances, just to throw the lawyers off the scent.
Probably none. A single employee taking a bribe doesn't seem that unlikely, however.
Yea, too bad Marriott has to foot the bill for peeping tom video.
$55M is ridiculous, but so is your proposal too low.
And we do need tort reform.
Is she in the market for a husband??
