Don’t think I ever saw that but do remember the book it was taken from. It wasn’t that story I was thinking of. I ran across the name of the island this morning - strange name - Fillip or something similar - looked it up on Google Earth and was amazed at the hundreds if not thousands of islands there....and now I can’t find the name again!!! I remember he had moved to one of the islands and it was referenced in something this morning - the only way I would have known the name. The islands have Beaufort addresses I believe, so it’s possible he was still on one of the islands and not in Beaufort proper. It will nag at me all day so when I find it, I will be back - HA!
Finally - the island is Fripp Island - one of thousands off SC..That is where I read that Pat Conroy lived.
Fripp Island is a 6.546 sq mi (16.954 km²) barrier island located along the Atlantic coast of the low country part of South Carolina. It is approximately 21 miles from Beaufort, 96 miles south of Charleston, and 65 miles north of Savannah, Georgia. Some of the neighboring islands include Hunting Island, St. Helena Island, and Lady’s Island. The island mostly serves as a residential vacation resort, but several hundred residents make it their permanent home. It is also the most seaward of the South Carolina Sea Islands. Fripp is renowned for its resort amenities and natural conservation.
