If you grew up in the 1960s or 1970s, then you know how relaxed everything used to be. Our parents never forced us to wear seatbelts, we pretty much at whatever we wanted, and were given way more responsibiity than we should have been given. It's a little sad kids today won't get to experience half the things we did, but looking back, there's a good reason why they won't.

Were these 12 things we did as kids kind of dangerous? Yeah, maybe some of it was.

Sounds like a great childhood on the farm.

I grew up in the suburbs of Seattle but also had fun and dangerous times. :-)

I have had no injuries since 40-I follow my own recommendations...

Lead by example, not by being an object lesson. Good for you. I haven't made the move to shop/office yet, either.

Was playing battle ball in sixth grade. Every guy was being real sneaky. One of them had quietly placed himself horizontal to me, about 15 ft away. I didn’t notice, but he had the ball behind and along side his right leg/out of sight. The next thing that happened was I got hit hard on the side of my head. Ear level. And from what I could tell while staggering to the sidelines, it must have reached about 30mph in that short distance. That really did hurt, I remember. Fun times tho...

...we carried the rockets, some 6 feet long, from the house 3 miles to the school right thru town and nobody even bothered us.

If this happened now in town, all the liberal men would wringing their hands and the liberal women would be peeing in their pants / and they'd be on the phone to the police in total fright.

I'm guessing you are right. The state university didn't want their government funding cut by producing unpredictable royalty income, so gave the patent to Dad as part of his retirement package. Dad even hired a recommended patent attorney to write up a royalty agreement who turned out to be mostly interested in just collecting and up-front fee.

Dad and, later, his widow Mom got a check averaging about $30 per month for several years before they stopped, so it may be in the public domain or they may have just stole it with some cosmetic changes as you suggested.
