Really. Dogs measure the eyes and posture for intent. Smiling generates movement which diverts attention from the eyes. In nature there is no smiling. Trust and acceptance is a series of small advances only after proving each level attained. Humans abandoned this instinct in favor of dismissing harmful intent. It’s just plain laziness.
