“But the bottomline was Donald can easily make this go away...just ask the Times to release the story.“

Just like the David Duke matter.

Trump is about to find out the “media” aren’t his friends anymore.

I don’t believe the concepts of “friends” or “enemies” have much to do with the coverage of Trump.

No, I think the coverage is driven mostly by an interesting, even exciting “narrative” — plus the corresponding ratings.

It’s an old pattern. I can remember it going back to the McGovern/Eagleton ticket in 1972, wherein the media love to build a candidate up for a while, then tear him down. This common narrative can make for mesmerizing copy, and it definitely can generate increased readership and viewership.

Anyway, sooner or later the “hero” (as in a Greek tragedy) must be brought down to Earth, best of all in a crash-and-burn fashion.

Therefore, one of these days the media’s narrative-generating-collective-brain will finally conclude that like Icarus, the hubristic Trump has flown too close to the Sun. His wings of wax must melt, and he’ll descend to Earth in spectacular fashion. You ain’t seen nothin’ yet.

Yep. I wonder if the media is turning a bit too soon against him. Maybe they should have waited until after Super Tuesday.

It’s a repeat of McCain and the media.
