Doing just like the rest of us who were giving what they could to get the so-called “Republican” party to hear us while living our daily lives. Some had and still have more resources than others and gave more hoping to sway any politician. All others could do was make phone calls and write letters.
He finally realized that was not working, just like so many of us. We tried Tea Party and then when that was co-opted, went rogue. Trump has stated numerous times the reason he got in was for the same reason that we went rogue in saying the hell with it, I’ll just spend the money to try it myself.
There is nothing more complicated about it than that.
