Sad isn’t it. Someone said the problem with Cruz is that if he were elected he wouldn’t be an activist president. He’d be more like Calvin Coolidge. Elect Trump and you get a guy who will abuse the constitution to prove he’s a strongman.

“Specifically what do you disagree with in that statement? And what words translate into admiration? Please, please, be very specific and don’t add words that aren’t there

Better come up with something. If not, could we presume you are a fascist also?”

When he equated the Chinese government’s mass murder with “strength,” that’s what. Mowing down unarmed, peaceful demonstrators isn’t “strength.” Rather, it’s exactly the opposite. A government confident in its own legitimacy doesn’t slaughter citizens who seek a stronger voice in their country’s political process.

Exactly. If Trump admires the “strength” of the Chinese government in slaughtering demonstrators, he must have an absolute woodie for old Joe Stalin.

Just throwing journalist in jail, as Trump would very well do if he had his druthers, is no way to revise the libel laws. No doubt Times vs Sullivan, where journalist cannot be sued for lying unless there is malice behind the lie as regards public figures, is a pretty rotten decision, but the English libel laws are too draconian, too. I think the best suggestion for a libel law is a combination of the English libel law plus evidence of financial damage to the person so libled. I think that would be more fair. Remember Sen. Joe McCarthy sued Drew Pearson and won a handsome settlement.

I feel the greatest problem is his supporters do not care. They don’t care that he constantly contradicts himself. They don’t care that he shows signs of senile dementia. They don’t care that supporting him exposes Republicans as hypocrites because Trump has done nearly everything that Bill Clinton did in his personal life and even bragged about it (save rape). They don’t care that Trump championed liberalism until he was in his mid 60’s to include funding it and ridiculing Republicans. They don’t mind Trump comparing their loyalty to him as if it were to that of cult members with him saying he could shoot someone and not lose their support. (He’s probably right.) They’re loyal to the man, not conservative principles, not the truth, and not to the values they claim they are pure at. They don’t mind his ad hominem attacks. They don’t mind that he won’t release his taxes. They don’t care about anything but their leader.

On another computer I recently recorded the statements of several FReepers who over the past months have openly stated they’re OK with extra-constitutionally outsized power in executive hands, so long as those hands belong to Donald Trump. It’s some pretty amazing stuff.

True, so let's all back Rubio -> Hillary instead.

It should be noted that liberals long praised both Saddam Hussein and Moammar Qaddafi as “moderate Muslims”.

You’re doing a great imitation. :-) Remember when it comes to Trump. Words don’t matter. Ideas don’t matter. Contradictions don’t matter. Character doesn’t matter. Conservatism doesn’t matter. Trump is the leader. The leader is always right. The leader is never wrong. Repeat fifty times.

I am satisfied that Trump would have some positive effects. He would delay the descent of the US into the Balkanized societies in much of the rest of the world. The barrios of the third world would not migrate and expand here (we already have enough). The European muslim no-go zones will not take root here. English would predominate and with that a cultural dilution would be avoid.

Trump would cut taxes (as would Cruz and Rubio), and get American business to repatriate profits and get the American economy moving. Trump would raise tariffs (Cruz and Rubio would not). That would have a beneficial effect in some areas, not in others.

Trump named two serious SCOTUS candidates. They were trashed here by some but that was specious.

Everything else would be some sort of crap shoot. We just can't predict how he will come down on any issue, and what policies he might choose. We can only hope to get strong leaders in Congress to oppose the stupid stuff.

As for the strong man, fascist innuendo, to some extent America has it coming. I predicted long ago that's how we would end up although I figured ours would be a little more like Pinochet.

While I agree with you, I would also state that this showed a resolve that the U. S. government hasn’t shown for some time. China, even against it’s own people has resolve.

This mountain of problematic statements, positions and policy continues to grow and it will not go away should Trump secure the nomination.

The Republicans are indicating they will go to any lengths to deny him victory in a general election. Remember Mississippi!

Trump will be obliterated. He is doing nothing to reduce his massive unfavorables. His defeat will redefine the concept of landslide.

Wake up!

True and that is a very good thing. Lots of people don't like unlimited Hispanic immigration including the 45% of Hispanics who chose him in NV. There are lots of people who like the fact that Trump is unfavored among Muslims. He holds firm on his beliefs rather than pander to everyone. Even if his unfavorables are 60% (a biased survey) he can still win easily in our low turnout country.

‘Yikes, Trump admires the communist thugs ... This guy really is a fascist.’

Trump called them vicious and horrible.

Yep, sounds like admiration to me. /sarc

Correct. Gulf War II was a natural consequence of not finishing Gulf War I as we could have easily done in February 1992.

Yeah, it might have cost Bush the election. < / sarcasm >

I’m less resigned to giving up my freedom on a whim that the dizzy dilettante Donald will do anything of value. He’s hired more illegal aliens than anyone else in the campaign, and he’s employed more Chinese in China for his products than anyone else. Why we’re to believe he’s so deeply committed to the issues you site is an open question, especially in view of just how many other things he’s betrayed over the years.

I suspect what you are driving at is this:

An effective commander in chief acknowledges the capability of other militaries and their willingness to fight.

~~~
One guy here equated such acknowledgement as ‘admiration’ and being a ‘facist’.
Is this how wimpy our nation is getting?
Glenn Beck might have gone ‘full fruitloop’, but he is spreading paranoia and anti-Trumps are looking for any excuse to agree with him.
Then there’s Rush Limbaugh reviving the slanderous ‘right wing circle’ theory. Being too right wing supposedly turns you into a facist. No, being too right wing is limited government to the point of anarchy. It’s not a circle. Trump is clearly not too right wing. He’s a patriotic pragmatist.
Rubio still ‘Gang of Eight’ at heart [my take]
http://www.breitbart.com/video/2016/01/17/rubio-were-not-going-to-round-up-and-deport-12-million-people
17 Jan, 2016 17 Jan, 2016
Sunday on NBC’s ‘Meet the Press,’ Republican presidential candidate Senator Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) said, ‘I don’t think you’ll round up and deport 12 million people. It’s clear now more than ever that we won’t be able to do anything on people here illegally until we first prove to people that illegal immigration is under control and America is safe.’
Rubio: Enforcing immigration law is ‘militaristic’
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2016/02/23/rubio_if_we_prove_illegal_immigration_is_finally_under_control_americans_will_respond_in_responsible_way.html.
“Bill O’Reilly grilled Republican presidential candidate Marco Rubio ...”
“Look, I don’t believe the American people support some sort of militaristic round-up of individuals, and I don’t think you could carry it out. The sort of tactics it would required would offend the American people,” Rubio said.
Compare that with Trump ...
[Trump website]
Increase prevailing wage for H-1Bs. We graduate two times more Americans with STEM degrees each year than find STEM jobs, yet as much as two-thirds of entry-level hiring for IT jobs is accomplished through the H-1B program. More than half of H-1B visas are issued for the program’s lowest allowable wage level, and more than eighty percent for its bottom two. Raising the prevailing wage paid to H-1Bs will force companies to give these coveted entry-level jobs to the existing domestic pool of unemployed native and immigrant workers in the U.S., instead of flying in cheaper workers from overseas. This will improve the number of black, Hispanic and female workers in Silicon Valley who have been passed over in favor of the H-1B program. Mark Zuckerberg’s personal Senator, Marco Rubio, has a bill to triple H-1Bs that would decimate women and minorities.
