Oprah just lost $27 million on Weight Watchers

Oprah Winfrey may have shed some pounds using Weight Watchers. But she may have lost something else -- influence. And money.

Shares of Weight Watchers (WTW) plunged nearly 30% Friday after the diet company reported a surprise $11 million quarterly loss.

The company's sales fell and, most alarmingly, so did the number of Weight Watchers subscribers and attendance at meetings.

Shares of Weight Watchers surged in October after Oprah announced she was taking a 10% stake in the company, joining its board and becoming a member as well. The hope was that Oprah's blessing would lead to a surge in new subscribers. Expectations grew after Oprah said in an ad for the company that she lost 26 pounds -- even while still eating bread every day.

But since Oprah first got involved with Weight Watchers, the stock price has fluctuated more wildly than the weight of a person on a fad diet.

She lost a lot of bread, likely.

A thinner spokesperson might be more convincing...

I guess the idea that Oafrah could keep the weight off using Weight Watchers was too much for the market to swallow.

That godless lesbian more than likely had fat removed surgically. I thought we wouldn’t have to look at her fat face after she closed down her show, but . . . there she is . . . fat face and all carrying on about weight loss. Disgusting. Weight watchers should be ashamed of themselves.

I love bread too, but instead of eating it, I should simply soak it in water and slather it around my waist as if it was a belt of some kind.

Oprah got paid for the ads with dollars. She may have been paid with stock, too. She in all likelihood paid little or nothing for either.

Now please excuse me while I feel bad for freaking Oprah Winfrey?

Just to look at her it doesn’t look like she shed too many pounds.

I wonder if she was just not a convincing celebrity endorser of the product????

Uh oh. This may lead to sudden depression and an eating spree. Watch out soon for beached-whale-Oprah.

Maybe people are catching on to this outdated and overpriced business model. All you really need is some willpower and a good app to track exercise and calories. Once you see how many calories you are consuming in a given day perhaps you will change your eating habits and exercise more.

Oprah is a fraud. She first did the water diet then got fat. Then had a book with Bob Greene, got fat again and denounced her method. She goes from diet to diet for lord knows what reason (hint: $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$) promoting to all her mindless followers.

I don’t know why they got rid of Jennifer Hudson.

Maybe now Oprah will be ready to be Trump’s running mate. Trump said last year he thinks she’d be great and they’d win easily.

Could be a lot of potential WW customers don’t want to line the pockets of an Obama groupie.

William F. Buckley once referred to her as the woman who is alternately thin then fat.

Maybe they figured her booty wasn’t big enough or something. I can’t say I understand some ad campaigns...but when they aren’t working, it’s time to do something different.
