YOU IGNORANT HATERS ALWAYS BASHING MY CANDIDATE I CAN'T TAKE IT THIS @!^&*% PLACE....
Actualy, there is no drama involved in my decision. Sorry to disappoint anyone looking for some whiny schreechfest before I head for the exit. The truth is I'm about to leave the USA for good. My wife is a British citizen and our children and grandchildren still live in the UK. We have been looking for a more affordable place to retire for years, mostly in Central and South America but finally settled on Spain because of its beautiful weather, affordability, semi First World culture and easy access from England. With low cost airlines like RyanAir they can be at our place in a couple of hours at a cost they can actually afford. We started doing research last year, narrowing down the choices of areas until we settled on the Costa Tropical because of the climate and because with the mountains coming down to the coast it would be easier to find a home with a view of the Mediterranean without having to be right down near the beach. After months of researching real estate sites and coming up with lists of homes my wife went over on a two-week house hunting trip to Almunecar There were some OK properties but nothing that reached out to pull us away from the States. Then while on a break from house touring she looked at houses posted on the window of a small local agency that didn't have a big Internet presence, found something that looked interesting and asked to take a look. A 3br 2 ba home with 3 terraces, a great view of the Med, close to amenities and just 5 minutes' walk from the beach, it ticked all the boxes. We put in an offer and it was accepted. Our house here in America was already under contract and the day closing was complete and I had the check in my hand I put in my papers to retire. My last day of work was Feb. 17. All of our possessions except some suitcases and this old laptop are either sold or in a container waiting for a ship to take them to our new home. Our final day in the States is Feb. 29th
Free Republic has been my go-to site for so many years it will be like trying to kick an addiction. You folks have been like my smarter brothers and sisters helping out in times of need and lending a hand in times of trouble. There was no subject that didn't have experts who could solve a problem in minutes, anything from financial advice to help choosing the best gun to deciphering tombstone rubbings in Middle English You joined in prayers when we paid tribute to one of our local fallen heroes and helped us grieve when the war hit close to home (as an update, our stepson and his girlfriend are now married and have blessed us with a beautiful granddaughter). Most of my posts seemed trivial to me but you never knew who would show up to comment, anyone from Humblegunner transitioning from BlogPimp Assassin to his new role as Grammar Cop to the legendary Buckhead to Mr. Robinson himself. It has been an honor and a privelege to call myself a Freeper.
But I know as I transition into my new life abroad I will become more concerned with getting our affairs in order, setting up our new home, adjusting to our new lifestyle, interacting with family that I haven't seen in years that I will have less and less time to keep up with what is going on back in the states. I already participated in early voting in Georgia and I will ask for an absentee ballot when Presidential elections come up but other than that politics will be less and less of a priority. My goal is to make a clean break and leaving the site is my first step. I wish you all nothing but the best and pray for the future. God Bless you all.
Hmmm . . . Ok I will pass your comments on to the other 20,000 Americans or more living in Thailand alone.
Igmorance of that nature is barely worthwhile responding too. But it is rather amusing.
Looks beautiful. Enjoy!
I just read it yesterday....Brit “FREE”....healthcare is circling the drain. Broke. Busted. Belly-up.
I hope you and your family have many happy years in Spain. Be well!
