Not familiar with that trail, but there are lots of mountain hiking trails which don’t have guard rails. You can’t be too careful.

Yup. I would avoid them and even if you’re a seasoned professional, too dangerous.
Of course if you fall that far, you probably won’t feel it.

I used to hike the Cougar Crest trail around Gold mountain but not the San Gabriels. I did take Jeep Cherokee off road there, though, and almost bottomed out on rocks before, wisely, getting back out of there.
