Yes - this sounds conspiratorial but it’s an open secret of how people are vetted - if not some “Mr Smith Goes to Washington” honest boy scout rube will go to the Senate and ruin their plans.
I’m not arguing. I have no doubt that goes on, and that those who are Boy Scouts get honey potted or get a little extra swag they can’t account for and if they don’t play ball get Petreused or Fosterized, or Rostenkowski’ed.
