Coudenhove Kalergi wrote this dangerous garbage in 1927 - it lay dormant throughout the depression years and WW2, when his then chosen elite - who appear to have had little input - were slaughtered by the Nazis. Re-invigorated in 1950 as the result of his receipt of the Charlemagne Prize - it seems his twisted theory was taken up as some sort of panacea by the anti-war movement. How or why he was chosen (or who by) escapes me. It reads like a recipe for genocide on a grand scale.

The sponsors promote that the Charlemagne Prize is not only an expression of gratitude for lasting services for the unity of Europe, but also an encouragement and an expression of hopes and expectations directed towards the future. They quote Kurt Pfeiffer: “the Charlemagne Prize reaches into the future, and at the same time it embodies an obligation - an obligation of the highest ethical value. It is directed at a voluntary union of the European peoples without constraint, so that in their newfound strength they may defend the highest earthly goods - freedom, humanity and peace - and safeguard the future of their children and children’s children.”

This book has probably not been printed in many copies, since it is very hard to get hold of a printed copy today.
In Germany the book is practically censored, even though it is not on the official list of books censored by the German government, it is not possible to buy it in any bookstores in Germany, neither new nor used.

When the publishing company ‘Independent News’ [Unabhängige Nachrichten] around 1990 published a summary of the book and contemplated printing it in it’s entirety, the government initiated a police search of the premises, and the only copy of Praktischer Idealismus was confiscated.

The book is also not mentioned on the official Internet pages of the Pan European Movement, which is understandable because its content is directly in opposition to the movement’s official program. The question is how this discrepancy originated: Was the Pan European Movement hijacked? Or was Praktischer Idealismus only meant for the few in the inner circles, and all the talk of Christian values, democracy etc. only empty rhetoric? Translated from Danish Wikipedia article
