Original 1977 Star Wars 35mm print has been restored and released online
Ars Technica ^ | Feb 18, 2016 | Reference to Ars Technica (Mark Walton)

It appears a team called "Negative 1" is behind a new version (HD) of the original Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, and the 35mm print has appeared online. For those of you purists out there, or those who might have been among the first to see the film when it first came out onto theatres and changed movie experiences everywhere, you might be interested in this.

The information is posted in an article from ArsTechnica online, but since they do not allow any excerpting at all on FR, this is purely a personal note and not an actual quote or excerpt from the article so they cannot complain about it.

It's not the first time that attempts have been made to restore Star Wars to its original theatrical version, and some might not even know about the version without all the CGI edits and additions of the later Special Editions, this appears to be centred upon a single 35mm print of the film instead of some hodgepod of scenes cut together from various sources over the years.

The standard links do not apply, so follow the direct link following this to read more and ignore the link on the originating page (it's the FR Index Page)...

Of course Han shot first! I remember it clear as day!

Even Harrison Ford himself swears he shot first. :)

It’s a better plot point to have Solo shoot first.

You'll probably need an eye patch , a cutlass, and a VPN. Not a Star Wars fan so I won't need the 20 gig file.

Referenced quote:

coming by even remotely decent-quality prints of Star Wars is rare. “They all had to be destroyed after they were shown. So the ones that still exist, somebody just dug them out of dumpsters and managed to hang on to them,” he says. “They’re all in very, very poor condition. They’re all very beat up. Even the best one, even the one that was used as a reference for the Special Edition was in terrible shape. The colours are there, but the damage is just insurmountable.”

You really have to have a driving need to have a "pure" version to go to all this trouble for so many years.

? Never watched “I”???

Missed you much, then. Classic, it is, and the greater loss, you.

Golf, it appears you must...

Sorry. The "ExtraFonts" glitch on FR is still happening it would appear, so here is a cleaned-up version of the text previously posted:

I have no more desire to play golf than to watch Star Wars. I did finish an Issac Asimov book the other day. “Pebble In The Sky”. Not great, but killed a few hours.

I saw it opening day and I’ll tell you if its original print because one thing the sound was off with the film.... the sound would end about half second before every scene would end
