I grew up in Baraboo and attended this theater regularly. It is breath-taking to walk into for your first time. It is nearing it grand re-opening after extensive restoration work. The article I have linked to provides detailed history of its construction and the Ringling family. It is somewhat long but it grabs you if you give it a chance.

I had to look up its meaning: it's a monadnock
monadnock: an isolated hill or ridge or erosion-resistant rock rising above a peneplain.
peneplain: In geomorphology and geology a peneplain is a low-relief non-constructional plain. This is the definition in the broadest of terms, albeit with frequency the usage of peneplain is meant to imply the representation of a near-final (or penultimate) stage of fluvial erosion during times of extended tectonic stability.
