I met him and Doc Watson at a show. They boys could jam - fun to watch! Between the two of em, there were some really funny stories. Doc has passed on now. Tommy is a wonderful Christian man, a genius prodigy guitar player, and a pleasure to be around.
Really cool. And speaking of “boys” can you imaging growing up with these brothers? Tommy and Phil:

I learned something very important from watching Tommy Emmanuel and his videos. Talent is 99% perspiration and 1% inspiration. I have learned about 20 or more of his songs and each one takes about 30-40 hours of intense playing, practice and perfecting. Take one phrase at a time. Work it out. Move to the next phrase. Work it out. Put them together. Lather, rinse, repeat.
After you work out all the technical aspects, then you have to work on the emotional aspects of the song.
To me, there is no one equal or even close to Tommy Emmanuel on acoustic guitar.
That being said, there are hundreds of songs that he has done that I don't think I could ever learn. Purple Haze is one of them. He probably put this one together in an afternoon.
