That episode is named, “Home”, and is my husband’s favorite. SOOO weird. Old lady kept yakking about “the War of Northern Aggression.”
Yeah; that’s what some of us still call it. When a
Rebel soldier was once asked WHY are you fighting us; he
answered, “Because YOU ALL are down heah!!” - My great
great grandfather was a Rebel soldier at Shiloh; I grew up
with my parents taking me to Shiloh a few times. The
Bloody Pond was very, very dark blood reddish from the rocks
on the bottom of the pond being stained with the blood of
soldiers washing their wounds in the pond. It has faded over
the years (I’m 69, and it was over sixty years ago since
I first was there.) I promise you; my folks did not have
slaves! We were mostly dirt farmers ourselves & just about
slaves to our farms. - My sixth great grandparents did have
several slaves & lived on a plantation down in Georgia
Territory a long, long time ago. Their son married a
Cherokee girl; his mother had a fit of the vapors, his
father gave him his inheritance in gold and he & his
“unsuitable” wife boarded a boat and went up the Tennessee
River to a settlement on the river. My great-great
grandfather worked on the TN River as a lightskeeper along
the shores. I have the Smith & Wesson revolver he
carried as there were rough customers on that river.
