Put Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz in the category of those pro-life advocates who question the sincerity of Donald Trumpâs pro-life conversion on abortion. During a campaign stop in South Carolina, Cruz questioned Trumpâs pro-life bonafides, saying he has a hard time believing that someone who called himself pro-abortion for almost all his life could suddenly have a change of heart and become pro-life.
âIf a candidate has spent 60 years of his life describing himself as very, very pro-choice. If a candidate has defended partial birth abortion for most of his adult life, we should not be surprised if, as president, he will not defend the right to life,â Cruz said, according to a Politico report
Some pro-life voters have questioned if Trump is truly pro-life, despite proclamations from Mike Huckabee and Sarah Palin that his pro-life conversion is authentic.
Trump ultimately changed his mind on abortion years ago, announcing his pro-life position in 2011, and on partial-birth abortion in the late 1990s after learning more about what the partial-birth abortion procedure actually entails.
âI support a womanâs right to choose, but I am uncomfortable with the procedures. When Tim Russert asked me on Meet the Press if I would ban partial-birth abortion, my pro-choice instincts led me to say no. After the show, I consulted two doctors I respect and, upon learning more about this procedure, I have concluded that I would support a ban,â he said in 2000.
Since his conversion, Trump doesnât appear to have promoted abortion and continues to say he is pro-life and opposed to funding the Planned Parenthood abortion business. But, in early February, when asked on the campaign trail to provide more specifics about the kind of abortion policies he would implement as president, he declined to give any specifics.
Instead, he repeated what he has say countless times before that he is pro-life on abortion but without providing any further details about what he would do on a myriad of pro-life issues he will face as president â most notably naming judges to the Supreme Court who will determine the abortion policy for the nation for decades to come.
The lack of specifics has already caused a group of leading pro-life women to encourage pro-life voters not to vote for Trump.
In a letter provided to LifeNews, the group of pro-life women leaders claim Trump is not trustworthy on the abortion issue because offhanded comments heâs made make it appear he supports pro-abortion judges on the Supreme Court or a pro-abortion vice-presidential running mate. The group includes heavy hitters like Marjorie Dannenfelser of the Susan B. Anthony List and Penny Nance of Concerned Women for America and black pro-life activist Star Parker.
The letter comes after an op-ed Trump wrote over the weekend outlining his pro-life views on abortion.
Trump opens the column explaining that he is pro-life with exceptions only for the very rarest abortions.
âLet me be clear â I am pro-life. I support that position with exceptions allowed for rape, incest or the life of the mother being at risk,â he said. âI did not always hold this position, but I had a significant personal experience that brought the precious gift of life into perspective for me.â
Trump said America has gone astray because it has moved away from the founding principles the nationâs founders put in most â most notably the right to life.

NO, IT IS NOT.
That pictures makes one wonder about Ted, sort of like the John Roberts photo floating around.
After stop and clean the froth from your mouth, you will find if you try that Trump gave about equally to each party, with a little more to the Republican party, and for forty years, it doesn’t come close to what is being given him by the globalists for this present campaign.
Not really. Read his books; google you-tube for that Oprah Winfrey interview in 1988.
Roughly 20 years before becoming a prominent conservative and eventual Republican presidential candidate, ___________began his political career as a Democrat. He joined numerous political committees with a left-wing orientation, such as the American Veterans Committee.
He fought against Republican-sponsored right-to-work legislation.
He planned to lead an anti-nuke demonstration and only his employer's intervention prevented it.
He was elected president of a large, famous union twice--a union which had known communists among its members.
He appeared ONSTAGE to endorse the Democratic presidential candidate, who subsequently won.
19 years later, as a governor he signed into law a liberalization of abortion that led to an explosion of abortions in his state.
Almost 20 years later, as president, he signed a law that legalized all illegal immigrants who had arrived in the US during the first almost 200 years of the existence of our nation.
I'll fill in the blank for you: our greatest president of the 20th century, known as Ronaldus Magnus, RONALD REAGAN.
That photo could rival Obama’s college photos for manliness.
Trump was pro-abortion in 4th grade? Wow. You learn something from Professor Cruz every day!
Very well stated!
That’s Rush and Levin hero?
RONALD REAGAN made it legal in all of California 7 years before that...but Cruz praises Reagan till the cows come how.
So we should disregard also the stories of former abortion workers who have become prolife? Some can change but others can't?
Geez, Cruz is losing it: his lies don’t even jive with basic mathematical reality anymore: Cruz is claiming Trump was pro-choice when Trump was nine years old. Given the ridiculousness of this lie, how can ANYBODY possibly believe it? Still, I notice on the politico.com article reporting this that they show a picture of Glenn Beck on stage, so possibly that partially explains the foolishness of the lie. Hard to tell though.
Nonetheless, clearly Cruz’s internal polling is telling him that he’s up against the ropes and how he’s simply flailing and throwing wild haymakers in every direction. However, it’s understandable why Cruz is panicking: if Cruz doesn’t come in a strong 2nd in S.C., his campaign is effectively finished (though he’ll probably limp along quite a while longer with the rest of the loser pack.)
Then provide an example.
Cruz’s current campaign.
Abortion!
Supreme Court!
Guns!
Abortion!
Rinse and repeat.
Like Obama statements..
Trumps core values come with an expiration date.
Ted better hope the videos don’t surface.
This is Cruz’s former business partner, former roommate, and lifelong friend. His name is David Panton. If you take the time to research, you can read all about the private equity/investment management scam that Panton and Cruz pulled off in Jamaica. Panton is quite a shady character, professionally and personally. He’s moved his private equity/investment/bankster business to Atlanta, last I checked. He has no shortage of critics of his business practices and his private life is pretty sketchy too.
