You're right. My parents died at ages 72 and 69. My brother died at 51. My two sisters died at 69 and 74. All were smokers. I've never smoked, but have had four surgeries since 2010: temporary colostomy, reversal surgery, repair of incisional hernia, and open gall bladder surgery (this past October). I'm 68, and thank the Lord for every day he gives me.
