So sad. Mrs p6 and I both have smartphones.

The key is self control.

That hasn’t been taught by parents or especially public schools for 40+ years.

TURN IT OFF!

Just reset the date to January 1, 1970?

You need to quit and go work for an Amish company.

I hated that anyone, for any reason, could interrupt my life, and I could interrupt my life just the same

How come all these people with "smart" phones never seem to be able to turn them off?

They all have voicemail, right? Shut the dang thing off and check messages later.

No one says you have to be available 24 x 7 just because someone wants to text you or speak with you.

Turn them OFF!

I have an old flip phone. It is designed to make... phone calls. Works for me. It can text, but I don’t.

I cringe everytime my cell phone rings. It's never anything good. Always somebody with a problem and because I answered, I'm now roped in and responsible for helping them solve it.

When was the last time anybody got a cell phone call and it was good news?

I don’t miss dialup modems and pagers and such..

Once everyone has their control&communication chips implanted..

They’ll fade off into the wastebins of bygone memories.

Will the Universe be better for it?

Ask the Ancient Ones.

Sam, when I get home, I leave the phone downstairs with the ringer off. If it's an emergency, they go through my son's phone.

I'm an old geezer, I'm not wedded to my phone, though I admit I really like my Iphone 6+. Takes great pictures, and I have my ITunes account on the phone.

I use my iPhone 6 primarily to read things, not send data (except with interacting with my family with SMS texting on certain occasions). As such, I actually find I use the phone a lot less than I anticipate.

Yup. That’s why I’ve never had one. Just not interested in being touch with the world all the time. In fact one of the things I enjoy is being OUT of touch with the world. When I go out with the wife to dinner or a movie we go to dinner or a movie, there’s nothing in our world other than each other and our “mission”. Yeah every once in a while it would be nice, when I can’t read the grocery list, or decide to stop somewhere the wife might want something from too, but all those situations are easily handled the old fashioned way (fix it the next time). Just don’t see the draw, and do see the addiction.

“When was the last time anybody got a cell phone call and it was good news? “

I got a call from the former prime minsiter of Nigeria’s son.
He wants my help; but I could make millions of dollars. I think thats pretty good news.

My 21-year-old son texted me last night to say his brother was throwing up. My phone was sitting at home on the counter, as it is half the time when I’m out. With no rescue available, my son figured out the cleanup on his own.

I still use a Nokia 3585 for my personal cell.

I had a Nokia 918 back in the 90s. Best phone I ever owned.

Built like a rock. Up until I got my current phone...an LG VX8300. I've had that one for 10 years now. Made of granite it is.

My wife has a joke about those bad news phonecalls, some family member was giving her guff about how the bedroom phone is turned off. They “said what if I need you at 2AM”, her answer was “nobody needs me at 2AM, you might need a doctor, or a mechanic, or a lawyer, but you don’t need me. Any way I can help can wait until a reasonable hour.”

I really don’t know how long I’ve had it. It was the next phone after my first, a bag phone. They made me switch because it was analog.
It just always works. Why fix it if it ain’t broke?
I just want it to make calls.

I got a cell phone call recently from someone who told me that I may have already won some valuable prizes. Isn’t that good news? ;)
