Trash IS the new normal in the USA. From Wal-Mart to the Superbowl, trash is in and decency is out.

Not sure I want to go back to those extremes, but my Mom wouldn’t shop for groceries in the 60s without a little makeup and a nice dress. She wouldn’t have worn “sweats” in the living room, let alone in public!

I too see how styles and fads have changed since I grew up in the 50s and 60s. I don't like many of the changes I've seen over the years, whether it is in clothes styles or cultural habits and mores. Some I am okay with. But I am also not naive enough to think that we should go back to the standards that were in place when I was young.

The benefit of a long life is that one can look back and see the changes over the decades, like them or not. Time moves on. The world turns and it doesn't slow down or wait for us to jump on board. Eventually, some of us are left in the dustbin of history, lamenting why things have changed so much. I believe this is less of a reaction to how things have changed and more to do with the fact that we are over-the-hill, as they say. Our time has come and gone and things will never be the same.

We need to learn to get used to it and get over it.....
